Empowering Clean Energy Startups: DEIC Accelerate Fuels Success with Utility-Scale Pilots and Deployment Support

DEIC Accelerate is the Dominion Energy Innovation Center’s virtual accelerator program connecting energy and sustainability startups with their next major utility customer and potential corporate investor. Over 18 weeks, the DEIC helps cohort companies explore paid pilot projects at Dominion Energy and other commercialization opportunities across the Commonwealth.

More Program Details

DEIC Accelerate provides a platform to drive utility scale innovation and make a positive impact on the Commonwealth’s march towards net-zero. We are looking for seed-stage or later companies with innovative products or services that are ready to pilot at utility scale.

Power Generation

Micro-grid to utility scale wind, solar, hydro, natural gas, nuclear and hydrogen

Energy Storage

Battery storage, hydrogen production and storage, and vehicle to grid.

Grid Resilience

Risk assessment, grid reliability, and vegetation management.

Transmission & Distribution

Advanced conductors, synchrophasors, and umanned systems.

Data Analytics

Predictive maintenance, machine vision, and customer journey mapping.

Smart Infrastructure

EV charging, vehicle and building to grid, and smart city technology.

We are looking for seed-stage or later companies with innovative products or services that are ready to pilot at utility scale.

DEIC Accelerate Program Structure

Dates

DEIC Accelerate runs 18 weeks between June and October each year, concluding with participation at Dominion Energy's Innovation Expo.

Cohort Size

6 – 8 companies are chosen each year to participate in DEIC Accelerate.

Programming

Throughout the program, companies participate in various workshops and events, most notably the mid-program pitch to Dominion's Chief Innovation Officer and other leaders.

Mentorship

Each company is paired with at least one dedicated Dominion Energy corporate mentor who drives internal evangelism during the program and is tasked with helping to build the business case.

Commitment

Companies should have at least one full-time employee and expect to dedicate 2 – 4 hours per week to the program.

Ownership

Startups stay fully in control; DEIC does not take an equity position or maintain any IP ownership stake.
