This hands-on workshop by SCORE Richmond is designed to help small business owners lay a strong financial foundation. We’ll cover the essential accounting principles every entrepreneur needs to know, from selecting the right accounting method—whether accrual, cash, or hybrid—to understanding and using financial statements effectively. Learn how to set up your accounting system with the right tools, including choosing accounting software, creating a Chart of Accounts, and managing bookkeeping and reconciliations.
We’ll also guide you through tracking your business’s financial health by interpreting key reports, monitoring cash flow, minimizing costs, and comparing actual performance to budget. Plus, we’ll answer common start-up questions like What’s the best accounting method for my business? Do I need a bookkeeper? What exactly is a chart of accounts?
By the end of this workshop, you’ll have a clear roadmap for managing your business finances, avoiding common pitfalls, and positioning your start-up for growth and success.
