Finalists Announced for SPARK Virginia Pitch Competition at Energy Tech 2025

 

The SPARK Virginia Pitch Competition has unveiled its eight finalists, representing some of Virginia’s most promising energy startups. These innovative companies will take the stage at Energy Tech 2025 to compete for $10,000 in prizes.

The competition will take place at Energy Tech 2025 on March 6th from 2:40 to 4:30 PM, providing an exciting opportunity for attendees to witness the future of energy innovation.

  • Criticality Sciences, in Alexandria, offers the NetResilience software platform, which delivers a suite of baseline metrics for resilience, identifies critical assets that may fail, and proposes mitigation options. Susan Ginsburg is CEO.

  • Data Company One, Richmond-based and led by Thomas Grinnan, offers a novel, cloud-native data platform driving sustainability and data integrity with generative AI.

  • Fermi Energy is a Blacksburg-based battery manufacturer focused on groundbreaking cathode technologies for EV batteries. Founded in 2022, the company is led by Dr. Feng Lin and Dr. Zhengrui “Ray” Xu.

  • Micronic Technologies’ technology transforms industrial wastewater treatment with a disruptive patented technology. Located in Bristol, the company is led by Karen Sorber.

  • Realta Systems is led by Andrew Glover. Headquartered in Lynchburg, the company focuses on pioneering, low-cost, radiation hardened robotics technology for nuclear facilities.

  • SCALED wants to revolutionize power distribution with their cable-integrated power electronics, reducing the need for transformers and substations. The company is led by Mark Cairnie and is based in Arlington.

  • Torev Motors is powering the future of mobility through next-generation electric motors, without the use of rare earth metals. Rory Brogan leads the company, founded in 2022 and based in Arlington.

  • WattBuild, based in Charlottesville and led by Josh Diehl, is transforming how consumers approach energy independence by demystifying solar and battery technology choices with a suite of software tools and educational resources.
